  Dangerous Sports Activities

          Around the world more and more people are taking part in dangerous sports activities. Of course,there have always been people who have looked for adventure    those who have climbed unknown parts of the world or sailed in small boats across the greatest oceans. Now,however, there are people who seek an immediate thrill, a risky activity, which may only last a few minutes or even seconds.

      Bungee jumping is a good example of such an activity.You jump from a high place 200 meters above the ground with an elastic rope tied to your feet. You fall at up to 150 kilometers an hour until the rope stops you from hitting the ground. It is estimated that two million people around the world have now tried bungee jumping.

      Why do people take part in such activities as these?Some psychologists suggest that it is because life in modern societies has become safe and boring.  In ancient times,people's lives were constantly under threat. They had to go out and hunt for food. Diseases could not easily be cured, and there was a continuous battle for survival.

     Nowadays, according to many people, life offers little excitement. They live and work in comparatively safe environments;they buy food in shops;there are doctors and hospitals to look after them if they become iii. It is necessary for some of these people to seek danger in activities such as bungee jumping.

    世界上正有越來(lái)越多的人加入到危險(xiǎn)運(yùn)動(dòng)中來(lái)。  當(dāng)然，世上一直都有尋找刺激的人    他們攀越不為人知的高山，駕艇橫跨大洋。但是如今，人們開(kāi)始尋找轉(zhuǎn)瞬即來(lái)的刺激，有時(shí)這些冒險(xiǎn)的活動(dòng)僅能持續(xù)幾分鐘，甚至幾秒鐘。

    蹦極就是這種活動(dòng)的一個(gè)很好的例子。人從距離地面200米的高處蹦下，以高達(dá)150公里的時(shí)速下落．腳上捆著的彈性繩保護(hù)著你以免撞上地面。據(jù)估計(jì)世界上已有兩百萬(wàn)人體驗(yàn)過(guò)蹦極跳了。

    為什么人們會(huì)投入到這些運(yùn)動(dòng)中來(lái)呢?一些心理學(xué)家指出，這是因?yàn)楝F(xiàn)代社會(huì)的生活過(guò)于安全而乏味。而在古代，由于人們的生活常常處在各式各樣的危險(xiǎn)之下，人們不得不出去打獵以獲取食物。一旦生病就很難治療，人們?yōu)榱松�存而不懈地斗�?zhēng)。
