19—22

When I begin to read these four paragraphs, the word “exult” puzzles me. After looking it up in the dictionary, I know it refers to express great pleasure or happiness, especially at someone else's defeat or failure. Here, exulting is another type of showoffs. Compared with other three types of showoffs, exulting maybe a permissible form of showing off. In the author’s view, exulting is shamelessly shouting their talents or triumphs to the word. During these paragraphs, the author mentions her family members and herself to go further step to explain this kind of person.

At the beginning of paragraph 19, the author uses the word of “defend”, after I look it up in the dictionary; I know it means protect someone or something against attack or criticism. In my view, this word indicates that the author admits that she is a showoff. Then, in the following text, it is worth reading the sentence “I was bragging and I ……I had an overwhelming need to exult”. Based on analyzing the structure of the sentence I get the meaning: Lots of triumphs had happened in the author’s life, which cause her had an overwhelming need to exult, she can not control herself, and she never feel shy.

When it comes to talk about the author’s husband, she only uses one complicated sentence in the paragraph, which I think is a good one. Both of the phrases ‘practically does a tap dance’ and ‘the greatest fried egg ever made’ express the exulting behavior proper. From the phrase ‘practically does a tap dance’, I guess her husband is proud of himself frying an egg for his wife. What he does is showing off. While the author uses the sentence, ‘this may be the greatest fried egg ever made’. It is also showing off.

In paragraph 21, these sentences of“Is he gorgeous? Is that a gorgeous? Is that the most gorgeous baby you ever saw?” attract me. All of them are simple sentences, and there are no difficult words in these sentences. However, I think the author is skillful using these sentences. What she does is not only attract the readers’ attention, but express her mother’ showing off behavior well.

It can be seen clearly from the text that exulting is a normal behavior, which we do it frequently in our daily life. In my opinion, it can be acceptable.
